In the third quarter of 2021, thanks to the community’s support, Morton Plant Mease Health Care Foundation granted your not-for-profit hospitals more than $3 million in support of 16 programs and six capital projects. Please refer to the following descriptions highlighting key grants supported in the third quarter of this year:

Ion Endoluminal Robotic System for Morton Plant Hospital
Lung Cancer has become the most diagnosed cancer since 2018 with more than 2.1 million people diagnosed each year. This Ion Endoluminal Robotic System will allow our interventional pulmonologist to biopsy areas of the lung that are not currently accessible. The technology features an ultra-thin, ultra-maneuverable catheter that allows navigation far into the peripheral lung, and the precision needed for biopsy.

Turley Health and Wellness Demonstration Kitchen
Chronic diseases like hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and obesity are the chief reason for most primary care office visits. Food insecurity is well recognized as a key social determinant of health that is linked to chronic disease. This Demonstration Kitchen will focus on teaching patients about nutrition and diet as they relate to improved disease management, disease prevention, and wellness.

BioRobotics Aquablation System
The first and only image-guided, heat-free robotic therapy for the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). This robotic platform delivers predictable clinical excellence with real-time multi-dimensional imaging. The technology also enables complete visibility of the entire prostate during surgery.

Philips EPIQ CVx Cardiac Ultrasound at Morton Plant North Bay Hospital
2D imaging technology has been replaced with 3D imaging as the standard of care throughout BayCare. Bringing this dedicated cardiac ultrasound will help decrease turnaround times and allow the hospital to care for more patients in a timely manner, therefore better serving our cardiac population and improving patient outcomes.

Portable CT Scanner for Morton Plant Hospital’s Critical Care Unit
Philanthropy helped fund a portable CT scanner for Morton Plant Hospital’s Critical Care Unit to support the neurosurgical and neuro-oncology programs. These patients are most at risk post-surgery so transporting them to the radiology department is challenging. This equipment provides on-demand brain scans without the patient leaving the safety of a monitored unit bed.

Family Medicine Residency Program
We’re proud to honor our medical staff for their commitment to providing outstanding care. Our community helps fund the Family Medicine Residency program at the Turley Family Health Center that provides physician education and clinical training for 24 residents each year.

Code Carts for Nursing Simulation
These educational code carts are for the unit-based educators to use in the hospitals. Code Blue carts will be used to conduct mock code blues on the hospitals’ clinical units. Code carts can create a realistic environment that mimics the clinical setting and provide nurses the opportunity to become more proficient performing resuscitation skills for patient survival.

Nursing Education and Engagement

Philanthropy helps our hospitals attract, reward, recognize and retain talented nurses, provide them the tools to enhance their learning, offer professional development programs, certification courses, research projects, and helps to distinguish our nurses as leaders. Thanks to our community, Morton Plant Mease team members currently enrolled in a nursing program have many options for scholarships, including the Dr. George Morris Earn As You Learn program.
